Root Hill maybe taking a break soon, but our infamous barista Angelo is keeping himself busy with the release of his band's new double single. His Brooklyn-based group, Sick Cell, plays to adoring fans frequently throughout the city at places like Littlefield, Cameo Gallery, and The Delancey. Next Magazine says that Sick Cell "has a sort of darkly mesmerizing quality to it that command[s] the rapt attention of...rowdy downtown misfits". It's a wonder how Angelo manages to crank out drinks each morning with his late night rock star life!

Born and raised in Chiba, Japan, Hide began singing at the age 15. He wanted to play bass in a band, but his high school friends urged him to step up to the mic because nobody else had the nerve to sing. Through the years, Hide stepped out on his own as an artist, cultivating his love for singing as the ultimate expression of love and passion. He composes various styles of music from Jazz, bossa nova to Hip hop, pop, R+B or even ambient techno.

Martian Man - Trash Pony Science & The UnderLining Order Of Things

If Saturday night wasn't wonderful enough, then surely Sunday's event made this weekend the best one ever! Mermaid Hawley stopped back by to give a talk on BOOBS! Wondrous, Magical and Everywhere! Painter Angela depicted expressive pictures as Mermaid Hawley told of personal events relating to her chest. And with the assistance of anthropologist Cricket, Mermaid Hawley literally revealed various brassiere she owned. Check out the photos below...

Bonobos in the Mist

Better known as a performance artist for twenty five years, her latest performance piece, Homo Bonobo Project, led Shelly to print making. These prints reveal a freeness that is consistent with the irreverence and punch of her performance style.  Her layering of images is reminiscent of the dense jungle foliage of the Democratic Republic of Congo where Mars spent many research hours observing the bonobo populations.

Native to only one small area of the DRC, bonobos are being wiped out by civil war, poachers and deforestation.

Mars has been Artist in Residence at New York City’s Museum of Sex and has received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Arcus Foundation, the Gill Foundation and the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art.  She is currently hosting the monthly performance series Bulldyke Chronicles at Dixon Place theater.

Twenty percent of all print sales and trash pony’s bar will be donated to Lola Ya Bonobo (www.friendsofbonobos.org ), whose mission is to rescue orphaned bonobos and eventually reintroduce them back into the wild.

Our fascination with the heavenly bodies goes back to the beginning of time when ancient man noticed the correlations between the movements of the stars and events on earth. Closely related to Astronomy, and considered one in the same, in the 17th Century Astronomy and Astrology split apart. Why did Astrology become associated with idea of superstition and divination, while Astronomy became science? What was it about the human mind that sought reason over divine guidance? How is our own cosmology evolving as we explore the dichotomy of increasing technology in our lives and an inner longing to connect to divinity and create community.

Get It Out: Trash Pony Comedy - Now required by Doctors.

Someone once said: "laughter is the key to life" and now scientist have actually proven it. Resent research done by Dr. I. M. Funny shows that one must do more than eat healthy and exercise to live a long life. Dr. Funny tested people to see if laughter was actually keeping them alive by measuring their heart rates and telling them jokes. Turns out that humans require at least a minimum of four hours a week of solid laughs and chuckles to remain functional. This is way less than what needed to sustain the existence of the four legged creature, the Hyena. The Hyena has to use 90% of its' day to laugh. Laughing has something to do with regulating the build up of air within the human body. Laughing causes air to be release from deep parts of your diaphragm that just can't be done through normal breathing, talking, athletic workouts, or even singing. But what's the big deal about getting this air out of deep parts of your body? Well, Dr. Funny explains: "not releasing the air with a good belly laugh can be very dangerous. If you don't release this air your body will be force to use all it's energy to try and suppress the growing pressure. That means that you will begin to feel very tired all the time and not be able to function. If this pressure is never release than the energy will build up and you will explode."  That's right if we don't expel the air within through laughing them we all would explode. Some ironic cruelty left over from evolutions Dr. Funny assumes.

Dr. I. M. Funny suggest that you attend the Get It Out: Trash Pony Comedy on April 13, 2011 to help with the regulation of air in your body. He says to make sure that you laugh hardly at the people providing jokes for your, literal, well being.  It may save your life.

A Mixed Media Exhibition 

March 25 - April 30th

Shelly Mars has studied and interacted with the Bonobo ape since 2006. Through this unique experience she has been able to artistically capture this species like no one else. Shelly uses a type of screen printing to illustrate the beauty of the human-like ape. With splashes of color and the process of layering she recreates her emotional involvement with the Bonobos. 

Her Mixed Media Exhibit begins March 25th followed by her multimedia Homo Bonobo Project at Trash Pony's Science + the underlining order of things Sunday March 27th at 7 pm.

‘Stanley John Mitchell and His Band of Buddies’ plays mostly original music drawn from the Roots Americana style they love so much. Stan feels though, that they give the music a contemporary twist that makes it all their own.

The band is unusual in that Stan works it like a one-man-band with friends. While he has a bass player and guitarist as bandmates, Stan himself plays guitar, sings and plays percussion/drums all at the same time.

Trash Pony's Science + the underlining order of things...Goes Ape!...Homo Bonobo Project

Dr. Ghislaine Pussait, a French primatologist & ethologist, focuses on wild bonobos (Pan paniscus) in Salonga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Homo Bonobo Project is a multimedia presentation by the globe-trotting Belgian primatologist Dr. Ghislaine Pussait, as played by her creator Shelly Mars.

Starting in 2006, Mars began an intensive study of the bonobo apes, the most endangered and least known of the Great Apes. The bonobos have been recently featured in pop culture and the press as “the make-love-not-war apes,” or “the hippie chimps,” because of their nonviolent nature, pansexuality, and matriarchal social structure. Graceful, charming, intelligent-and-tragic-bonobos bear a striking resemblance to humans, and are our closest relatives, sharing 99.5% of our DNA.

Native to only one small area in the Congo, their numbers are being radically reduced by pressures from civil war, poachers, and deforestation. With a grant from the Arcus Foundation, Mars visited bonobo environments and study centers in the US and the Congo. She videotaped and connected with many important primatologists and field workers, and became increasingly fascinated with them and their urgently important work.

Shortly after moving to the U.S. from Israel to begin his music career, singer-songwriter Omer Wald met Jino Arielly, a bass player and producer also from Israel. The pair began refining a number of songs that Omer had been working on for years. After many months of polishing the brooding, guitar-driven tracks, they realized the music was finally ready. Jino then recruited Brian McFadden, a drummer and former bandmate. A Team of Rivals was born.
