Originally from North Carolina, Matthew Brookshire is a performer and songwriter currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Matthew’s collaboration with modern dance choreographer Keely Garfield, "Eva Potranspiration/Cloud 9", received a grant from the American Music Center in 2009 for its premiere at Danspace Project in NYC. His original music for films includes Christian pop songs for the Todd Solondz film Palindromes(which screened at the Toronto, Venice, Telluride and New York film festivals), the score for the award-winning short film Rene Turns 40, and a featured placement in the upcoming Violet Tendencies. The title song from Matthew’s sophomore recording, Best Friend, was a finalist in the NY Songwriters Circle contest, culminating in a live performance at NYC’s legendary Bitter End. “Wedding Song” and “I Reveal My Heart” (both from the album 8 Songs) were added to Sirius Radio and appeared in the Top 20. Matthew has co-written (with Curtis Moore) songs for other artists, including #1 Billboard dance artist Kevin Aviance and Tony Winner Sara Ramirez (of “Grey’s Anatomy”). Matthew’s live performances include college bookings throughout the Northeast, as well as shows at some of NYC’s top venues. Matthew is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Drama and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
